This workshop explores the intersection of creative practice and human-animal studies.
This workshop explores the intersection of creative practice and human-animal studies. Within a safe and caring environment, we will share and create stories that explore human-animal relatedness. We invite you to bring along images of animals that matter to you, including those you live with, those you have lost, those you admire, and those who need advocates.
This workshop employs a storying approach, meaning we will collaborate in meaning-making through sharing stories of human-animal relatedness and creating art in response to them. Lara and Andi can also specifically speak to their areas of academic specialisation/experience as part of the workshop if you have an interest. Please bring your own art supplies, including paints, brushes, notepads, a laptop, pens, pencils, etc. There will be an option to 'create' outdoors, so dress appropriately.
*Depending on interest there will be a follow up course later in the year.
A certificate is not provided for this course.
Andraya Stapp academic research proposes making stories with nonhumans using a reconciling Indigenous and non-Indigenous methodology. Andraya is also a secondary teacher and creative writer, and aspects of her methodology will translate well to school or work settings.
Lara Drew's expertise lies in activist-based research, with an emphasis on adult and embodied learning, and is complemented by a critical animal studies perspective.
